Ten-year-old Kyle Stacy of Fairport has a unique talent, and was invited out to Hollywood recently to demonstrate that talent on television. The sixth grader traveled to California in June to film a segment for ABC’s new variety show, “Master of Champions”. Kyle’s talent is his ability to fly a radio-controlled, model helicopter with such skill and precision that he is considered by those in the know to be an aerobatics prodigy. The premise of the TV program is to showcase uniquely-talented people and to eventually pare down the competition to crown the best-of-the-best.
Patrons of the Macedon Public Library were able to get a “sneak peak” at this talented youngster when Kyle presented a demonstration of his remote-controlled flying skills on the lawn behind the library at 30 Main Street, on Thursday, July 20.
Joining in the demonstration was talented, 15-year-old Clay Wheaton, whose specialty is putting his radio-controlled model airplanes through spectacularly aggressive maneuvers. A Webster resident, Clay has been flying for a little over a year, but has already performed in several shows outside of New York, and has advanced to a level where mentors in the sport feel he could successfully participate in professional radio-controlled pilot competitions.
All were welcomed to come to the library to watch Clay and Kyle and put their model plane and helicopter through some spectacular routines. This flying demonstration was held in conjunction with the Model Airplane Show held in Macedon on July 22-23. This annual show is sponsored by the Rochester Aero-Modeling Society, and is held annually at the RAMS model flying field at 2529 Macedon Center Road, about two miles east of Route 350. In an effort to give back to the community, a portion of proceeds from the event were donated by RAMS to the Friends Endowment for the Macedon Public Library.
