Minutes for the meeting of August 15, 2007:

1. Vice President Moore called the regular meeting of the Board of Trustees for the Macedon Public Library to order at 1:05 P.M.

- Secretary’s Report
Minutes of the regular meeting of July 18, 2007, were approved as amended. Motion by Hamilton. Second by Read. Unanimously passed.
4. Financial Report
Copies of the financial report for July were distributed by Virkler. Motion by Read and second by Hamilton to accept the Treasurer’s report. Unanimously passed.
Three trustees verified vouchers #115-128 inclusive. Approval was made for payment of abstract #7, July, 2007, in the amount of $3547.88. Motion by Hamilton. Second by Bellis. Unanimously approved.
- Director’s Report
Director Virkler provided a Library’s Director’s Report to the BOT on current activities and events. Highlights discussed were:
Circulation in June was the highest ever.
Currently PLS plans to do the Sirsi upgrade on Oct. 22. Discussion as to whether the library will remain open or closed during this time followed.
Results of the recent electronic poll the Rochester Ad Council did for PLS:
Most find OWWL easy to use.
Many access OWWL from home.
The majority is happy with OWWL and their local libraries.

Moore expressed the belief that the MPL needs more publicity.
- Old Business
Bullis Room – John Hamilton, Liaison
Hamilton stated that the Kistler maintenance contract needs to be more specific as to when they are coming and as to the fact that they need to bring their own tools, etc., with them.
A better scanner is needed for photos.
Friends of the MPL- Joan Handfield
The Friends have completed one outreach project - books for soldiers - and are working on another for large print books and books on tape for Parkwood. Handfield will check on a photo from the Harry Potter event for submission to newspapers, etc.
Long Range Goals - Mert Bartels - No report
CRMPL - Bill Moore
Three grant applications have been received.
Self-Evaluation Survey - Katie Read
The Board is split almost in half on some issues.
Value of Library Contents for Insurance Purposes - Bill Moore
Bullis Room- approximately $250,000
Rest of the Collection- approximately $750,000
Accessories (shelves, etc.) approximately $100,000
Currently insured at $300,000
Moore will discuss this issue with Supervisor Hammond.
- New Business
The new Macedon Messenger will not contain any articles from the Board.
Pat Stocker did a brief presentation on long range planning: “New Planning for Results.” This is a planning model from PLS which Stocker has used to help 10 libraries, four of which are in Wayne County. This project will be placed on the agenda for discussion at the next meeting.
- The next regular meeting of the Board will be September 19, 2007, at 1 p.m. in the Macedon Town Hall Conference Room, Macedon, NY.
- Moore moved to adjourn at 2:40 P.M. Read seconded.
