Macedon Public Library Board of Trustees

Minutes for the meeting of April 18, 2007:  

Location - Conference Room, Macedon Town Hall, Macedon, NY. 

  1. President Bartels called the regular meeting of the Board of Trustees for the Macedon Public Library to order at 12:59 p.m.

Attendance: Trustees, Manager, Treasurer

  1.  Secretary’s Report

Minutes of the regular meeting of March 21, 2007, were approved. Hamilton made the motion. Moore seconded.

  1. Financial Report:

Treasurer Leonard distributed copies and reviewed the financial report for March 2007. Motion by Moore to accept the Treasurer’s report. Second by Hamilton. Unanimously passed.

Three trustees verified vouchers 53-67 inclusive. Approval was made for payment of abstract #3, March 2007, in the amount of $8865.69. Motion by Hamilton. Second by Moore.

  1. Director’s Report:

Director Virkler provided a Library Director’s Report to the BOT on current activity and events. Highlights for March:

·        Circulation - up a little to 28,520

·        Three new computers are being set-up

·        June Hamell attended a workshop on how to teach basic computer use.

  1. Old Business:

Bullis Room - John Hamilton, Liaison

·        $6,104 left in account

·        Need protection for binders on windowsill

·        Newark Arcadia Society wants to borrow some books (question of insurance)

·        June Hamell on May 9 is speaking to the Pal-Mac Rotary at the Palmyra First Presbyterian Church. Topic: Bullis Room,

Friends of the MPL-  Abbe  Harbol, Liasion

·        Book sale is next week

·        Book case has arrived.

·        Quilt project has begun.

·        Harry Potter book “raffle”

Long Range Goals - Bill Moore

·        Looked at MPL current and Palmyra’s mission statements.

·        Separate meeting in June to give the Board time to read and cogitate on what we want our statement to be.

Finance Committee - Bill Moore

  • $720 has already been donated from the Macedon Messenger requests. The committee is looking for grandfatherly type to hold grandchild reading a book for brochure (photograph).

  1. New Business:

President Bartels reminded the Board that the budget must be audited at least every five years. Hamilton moved that the Board get a quote to do an audit sometime this year. Moore seconded

Jefferson discussed Cooperative Collection Development for OWWL.

Moore discussed his conversation with Jennifer Morris about a law which allows a library to set up a special tax district.

  1. Next regular Meeting is Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at the Macedon Town Hall Conference Room, Macedon, NY.
     
  1. Hamilton moved to adjourn at 2:28 p.m. Harbol seconded.
