Friends of the Macedon Public Library

Minutes - December 20, 2007

We enjoyed a potluck luncheon from 12-1 p.m., with the meeting following.

·         The minutes of November 2007 were approved as read.

·         Treasurer’s report:

  • Friends account - $1,300

  • Chase/CRMPL  $6,000, which includes dollars going into the endowment

  • $2,000 in CRMPL account is unencumbered

  • We made the $12,000 goal for our matching grant. The total in the endowment is $91,889.

·         Display case:  January - tea sets.  The display case is scheduled through May.

·         E-bay sales:  Two books will be placed on eBay as soon as Abbe has time.

·         Rundel:  Since the start of our dealing with them, we have gotten about $600 in sales.

·         On-going book sale:  Oct - $61;  Nov - $94.25

·         Spring Book Sale:  April 22-27.  This includes set-up and take down.  Save the dates.  We will be looking for volunteers to help work.

·         CRMPL:  The thank you party for donors and volunteers will be February 9 at Parkwood Heights, and will be  soup and salad in the afternoon.  CRMPL may/will ask the Friends for help in putting together the thank you gifts.

·         Endowment projects:  We still need a liaison for the two projects.

  • YA Graphic Novels - Kimberly Hanford has collected the present novels in a separate area in the YA section, and has submitted a list of new purchases.  She hopes to organize a reading challenge during spring and summer break.

  • History - Chris Blomgren has four presentations scheduled, Feb., Mar., Apr. May.  The first will be for all Macedon 4th graders, and the others will be in the library.

·         Literacy Volunteers:  Will have a training center here in Macedon, meeting in the library.

·         Outreach:  Nothing at present.

·         Two-Year-Old bags:  24 were purchased.  We are tentatively scheduled to make them at the February Friends meeting.

·         New Business:  Linda Kingsley has proposed a once a week informal craft group, which she has volunteered to lead.  She proposed fun, easy, stuff, e.g. Knitting hats for the Warm Winter project, crocheting, making envelopes.  It will be held on Wednesday mornings.

Abbe has been offered a full time position at Palmyra Elementary.  Nancy Wint volunteered to fill in as secretary.

·         Library Quilt:  Oooooooh.    Aaaaaah.   Everyone loved it!  We will continue working on it. There was some discussion on having an adult program with a quilt display and speaker.

Respectfully submitted,

Marile Waterstraat for Abbe Harbol
