On-going: Joan H. does not yet have the October figure - will know after the BOT meeting next week

CRMPL: Joan M. Reported that CRMPL has applied for a Bullis Advised Fund matching grant for 2008. The amount requested is $12,000 in matching funds. Fundraising this year has been very successful, and to date, CRMPL needs only $1,130 in order to reach its 2007 goal of $12,000. CRMPL has just sent out an additional 50 appeal letters to people it has not previously contacted.
Outreach: Joan H. delivered books to the Wayne County jail; more books will be welcome there when they are available
Programming Grades 5-8: no report this month; at the December meeting, we should have some specific information to share about the two endowment-funded projects which do focus on programming for children and young adults.
- Christopher Blomgren from the Genesee Valley Adventure Corps has been awarded $1,000 to provide a four part historical program. The program is based on the fourth grade social studies curriculum, and will include information on being a soldier during Revolutionary War times, what life was like at the homestead, information on the early years of the Erie Canal in Macedon, and the life of a Journeyman worker.
- Kimberly Handford was awarded $950 to develop a Graphic Novel Center in the Young Adult section of the library.
Old Business:
Book bags for Storytime: Marile has visited a number of stores looking for book bags (Dollar Store, Public Market, etc.). She found some 11 x 9” bags at Joanne’s (a four-pack for $6.99). We discussed the various types of bags which both Abbe Harbol and Marile had found, and which others had seen on-line, and decided that the ones at Joanne’s were the closest to what we needed. Marile will purchase 20 of the bags for us to work on early next year. Pam says she has enough on hand for this year, but will be needing more for next year. We also discussed the possibility of offering larger book bags for sale to library patrons. Marile brought an example of a bag with an attractive logo patch which she had received, and which would not be too expensive to duplicate.
Distribution of left-over children’s books: After the last Used Book Sale, we had a large number of Young Adult books and a lesser number of children’s books left over. These were distributed in a number of ways:
- Carol Klingler provided a portion of the books to Cameron Ministries and to her daughter-in-law, who took them to School 52 in Rochester. That school uses the books as rewards in a weekly incentive program for their students. More books, including some adult books, would be welcome after the April sale.
- Pam Dibble gave a number of the books to Ann Gilson, who distributed them at Macedon Elementary.
- Other books went to St. Anne’s Daycare in Palmyra.
- Mert Bartels picked up some of the books to send to the military overseas.
New Business:
Christmas cards: Joan H. asked for approval to send Christmas cards signed on behalf of the Friends of the MPL to the Salvation Army to be distributed to their clients. Members present thought this was a fine idea.
Holiday brunch: It was suggested that we have a Holiday brunch for our December meeting, with members bringing their potluck “specialty” dishes to share. The meeting will start early at NOON. Carol Klingler will coordinate the event. An RSVP to Carol would be helpful so we will be sure to have enough “cutlery”, etc. Carol can be reached at (315) 597-3543, or by e-mail: Sund135@aol.com or leave word at the Main Desk at the library (315) 986-5932, ext. 3.
Bookcase Quilt: Carol has been piecing the quilt together at home, and she brought the work-in-progress with her to the meeting. The unanimous reaction was that the quilt is beautiful and wonderfully colorful! We still have a lot of work left to finish the outer “bookcase” and the binding - and the backing, which will probably be black. And then there will be the quilting! We are all looking forward to seeing it hung somewhere in the library when it is finished.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:00 p.m. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, December 20, beginning at Noon, in the Community Room at the library.
Minutes respectfully submitted by:
Joan Moore for Abbe Harbol, Secretary
