CRMPL update:
- J. Moore reported that the second $5,000 was raised in the "Double Your Dollars" campaign. CRMPL is confident it will reach the total for the Bullis grant.
- CRMPL would like to have a member of the Friends volunteer to act as liaison between the library and the endowment grant seekers. Anyone interested in acting in this capacity for the graphic novel development grant should contact Bill Moore.
Display cases: October-Warm Winter project; November-Owls; December-Girl Scouts.
History Committee: Still is seeking clippings from newspapers with anything to do with the MPL or Friends activities
Out-Reach:
- J. Handfield spoke to Mitzie at Parkwood Heights about their library. They have recently received a donation of 60 books on tape, and they already have a collection of large print books. The Friends will touch base with them in approximately a year to see if they need anything.
- J. Handfield delivered six bags of paperbacks to the WAYCO jail. The Friends can contact them again in the future to see if they are ready for more books.
- There were some children’s/young adult books remaining from the sale. Carol Klingler is looking into some community centers and food cupboards to see if they would be able to use some of these books for outreach and holiday baskets.
Fundraiser for Friends general account:
- Linda Kingsley arranged the donation of mums to the Friends. The sale of the mums raised $430.00 for the Friends general account.
- Big book sale - the Fall book sale netted $1,660.00 for the Endowment fund. Next meeting we will be setting the date for the next sale in the Spring.
5). Old Business:
- Quilt- after the meeting the quilt blocks were sewn together, and the book case was begun.
- Story time book bags - Abbe Harbol was unable to find the smaller size bags that Dibble prefers for the two-year-olds on-line. They are carried at both Michael’s and JoAnne’s craft stores but are quite pricey. Discussion followed regarding making bags from canvas cloth. J. Handfield will contact some other craft stores to see about ordering in bulk. Tabled until next month.
6.). New Business:
- Community Room booked through June 2008 for the Friends meetings.
- PLS has sent out a request for contributions to the Harold Hacker Fund. Discussion followed regarding a donation from the Friends. Decision was no.
- Idea was raised to have larger bags with decal representing the Friends for adults to use for shopping at sale, etc. M. Waterstraat to check on decals. A discussion for a name change for the sale was dropped.
Meeting adjourned at 1:55 p.m.
Next official meeting will be held on Thursday, November 15, at 1:00 p.m.
Minutes respectfully submitted by:
Abigail Harbol, Secretary for the Friends of the Macedon Public Library
