Minutes - September 20, 2007
1). Present: Wint, Waterstraat, Moore, Harbol, Handfield, Yatteau, Gabbert
Agenda attached.
Meeting called to order by Vice President Handfield at 1:12 p.m.
2). Secretary’s report: Minutes of August 2007 were approved as written.
3). Treasurers Report: See attached report for September .
General savings account:$ 888.60, CRMPL account: $ 4875.69
Endowment Fund A-$67,024.36
Endowment Fund B- $12,586.834). Announcements and updates:
n Rundel sales- no sales this month
n On-going book sale - per Joan Hanfield, MPL received $98 for the month of August
n display cases - September-lighthouses, October-Warm Winter project, November-Owls, December is open discussion followed. (Note: post meeting, it is possible the Girl Scouts have December booked.)
n eBay sales- none this month
n 5-8 grade programing - Harbol spoke to one 7th grade student over the summer. He gave some ideas about what he would like to see on the MPL website page for teens, but did not respond to further questions by email
n CRMPL update - The Endowment Board of Directors has met and selected two of the five submitted proposals to fund.
1). Christopher Blomgren from the Genesee Valley Adventure Corps has been awarded $1,000 to provide a four part historical program. The program is based on the fourth grade social studies curriculum, and will include information on being a soldier during Revolutionary War times, what life was like at the homestead, information on the early years of the Erie Canal in Macedon, and the life of a Journeyman worker.
2). Kimberely Handford was awarded $950 to develop a graphic novel area in the young adult section of the library.
n History Committee - still is seeking clippings from newspapers with anything to do with the MPL or Friends activities
n Out Reach - Handfield will be meeting with Director Virkler to discuss the possibility of adding additional books on tape and large print books to the collection to have checked out at Parkview Heights.
n Bi-annual big book sale is coming up! Set up begins on October 16th and 17th. Sale runs from October 18-20th. The Friends will be looking for willing volunteers to help transport books to the library from storage, sort and arrange books for the sale, assist during sale hours, and help with the take down and clean up.
5). Old Business:
n Quilt- after the meeting the quilt blocks were put out and how the bookcase would be put together was discussed. Wint took the blocks home to trim them to size and prepare them for assembly. We will be working to assemble the quilt at our October 25 meeting.
n Books for Soldiers - Handfield reported that the box of books that she shipped was returned to her home. The post office could not determine why the books were returned. She resent them.
6.).New Business:
- Story time book bags - Dibble has reported that she needs more book bags for the two year old story time kids. Harbol will look for pricing on 15-20 bags and get executive permission to purchase.
- Mert Bartels has reported that the Masons are holding a paper back book drive for soldiers. Fourteen pounds of books can be mailed for $30. He will be getting more information for the group.
- Waterstraat reported that the Community Foundation is going to be giving Paul Rubery an award at the annual dinner. June Hamell will be attending the dinner.
7).Coming Attractions:
· The October meeting of the Friends has been moved to October 25th due to the book sale. After this meeting we will be working on the bookcase quilt. Anyone interested in assisting with putting together the quilt is welcome to attend.
· During the November meeting we will be working on the two-year-old story time book bags. Again all are welcome.
